On January 22nd, UK indie-pop band Bears In Trees dropped their second single of the year, “Permanence.” The song followed shortly followed after their single titled “Ramblings of A Lunatic.” With this coming year Bears in Trees announced their new project I Wanna Feel Chaotic which they describe to be, “about coming to terms with the worst parts of your personality – with the things that scare you, with the things that keep you awake at night… with the deaths of your friends, and the slow acceptance that you are deserving of love.”

“Permanence” starts off with a soft guitar melody that give the listen a sense of nostalgia and ease. The melody almost gives the listener a visual feel of an art film. The chorus declares, “I want permanence in the little things… I want to feel chaotic, but calm enough to hold you in the morning.” The wanting and needing to hold on to things, even if they’re just minor parts, through a crisis.

The second verse describes feeling lost and losing touch with your authentic self by trying to bend the way people see you, “We look for patterns in the static…And there’s a door that leads to nothing, well, I’m sure that stands for something…and pray when the summer ends, you still haven’t found me.” There are even a few references to prior songs like “Fly Out To Alaska” and even Don McLean’s “American Pie.”

Bears in Trees coming in hot with the importance of remaining true to yourself and how, sometimes, losing yourself is apart of the process to finding yourself.
