Indie trio In Earnest has just released their latest single, titled “29”. The song, written by Tom on his 29th birthday, is a “collage of true stories” that shaped him into who he is today.

Sonically, “29” is very similar to a Phoebe Bridgers track. The guitar is soothing and Tom’s voice is able to emote while remaining delicate. He recalls “praying to a god [he doesn’t] believe in,” recounting formative events of his life. In Tom’s words, it reflects on “tedious” adulthood and holding onto a “childlike thirst for adventure.”

The song feels like a realization of how quickly time passes and the importance of holding on to the moments that mean the most to you. The song is easy to lose yourself in, closing your eyes and letting yourself reflect on who you’ve become.

Overall, “29” is hauntingly beautiful and lets your mind wander. Give it a listen below!
