I write my songs based on my current situation, my feelings, my thoughts, my dreams, inspiration, etc. Some songs are written straight from a situation in my life and others are created through a visual inspiration. “80’s Arcade” was born when I encountered an inoperable arcade game at my studio that got my wheels spinning and led into a concept I was eager to write about. The visual aid depicted an image in my mind and helped me lyrically put together this concept. I was strongly influenced by the concept of an old, vintage arcade and how love might have felt back then.
Once the concept is chosen, I really try my hardest to use vocabulary that is parallel to the title of the song, the bigger picture. In “80’s Arcade” you’ll hear the chorus sing “the lights blurred everything between you and me” creating the image of a vintage, old time arcade setting. At the end of the chorus, I sing “but we turned our tokens in,” which is self explanatory for the way you pay for a turn on a game at the arcade. My creative process is nothing less than a process. Nothing is just magically completed overnight.
Thanks for the opportunity to write about my newest single!
