Can you introduce yourself, and tell us more about why you chose your genre?

“My real name is Jade Rich. I’m 18 and I’ve been writing music for about 5 years now, but I wasn’t able to get more serious about music until this past year. I’ve always been into pop-punk music, but when I saw Real Friends play Warped Tour last year I knew that was the type of music I wanted to write and play for people.”

Fox teeth is such an interesting name. How did you come up with it?

“The way I came up with the name is actually a really funny story. The first song I ever released was written to mimic the style of a Foxing song as a joke, so I decided to release it under the name Fox Teeth since it sounded similar. The name stuck and really grew on me, so I’ve been introducing myself under it since.”

What is Poets and Ghosts inspired by?

Poets and Ghosts is inspired by so many different like negative friendships, mental health, bad memories. The only song that was inspired by something different is “SIXTWENTYTHREE”, because I wrote it about my boyfriend.”

Who are your biggest inspirations currently?

“My biggest inspirations would include the bands Real Friends, Grayscale, Modern Baseball, and Love, Robot. Each of these bands have a really unique sound and have written songs that are extremely personal to me. “

Who would be your choice to tour with, dead or alive?

“If I could tour with anyone, it’d be Modern Baseball without question. I’d give anything for a MOBO comeback. “

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing right now?

“If I weren’t making music, I’d probably focus more on film or photography. I’m studying both in college, but that’s honestly just a backup in case music doesn’t pan out. “

What is an average day like for you?

“An average day for me usually just consists of going to class, work, and then coming home to practice guitar for a few hours. “

Could you describe a moment that made you really think that you wanted to become more serious about music?

“Seeing Real Friends for the first time definitely solidified my passion in being a musician. From that moment, on I began writing more songs and learning to record them properly.”

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome so far as an artist?

“The biggest challenge I’ve overcome so far as an artist is finding the confidence to release music. Every time I do it I spend a lot of time worrying about how people will respond to my songs. Thankfully, everything has been positive so far.”

Could you explain your creative process?

“I usually turn what I want to write about into an analogy of some sort, and then write lyrics based around it. After I feel set with the words, I find the right sound for the song and then I record it. I also get really inspired when I’m out in nature, so that helps to create more too.”

What is the best advice you have been given?

“The best advice I’ve ever been given is to take time to learn and understand yourself while still being aware of other’s and their lives. I try to stay true to that with daily interactions or thoughts I have. It really allows for you to be a better, more understanding person.”

What is your ultimate goal at the moment?

“My ultimate goal at the moment is probably to just get my music out more, and to turn Fox Teeth into more than a solo project. It’s definitely in the works, but I can’t predict exactly what will happen just yet. “

What is the number one thing you want people to take away about you as an artist?

“The #1 thing I want people to take away from me as an artist is that I’m always going to make music that’s true to who I am and how I feel. What I create will always be a reflection of that.”
