On the 14th of December, Sleep On It played their holiday show at Lincoln Hall in their hometown of Chicago, Illinois. At the show, they did a sock drive for the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. With openers like Chicago based band Better Love, Albany based Young Culture and Ottawa based band Bearings the crowd was in for a great night.
The night began with indie alternative band Better Love hyping up the crowd playing some of their own songs such as “Pretending Midnight,” “Stay With Me,” & “Blue Bird.” They even covered “Last Christmas” to get everyone in the holiday spirit and let everyone sing together to a well known song. The crowd danced around while getting to embrace some music playing a hometown show.
When the up and coming pop punk band Young Culture came on, the crowd was full of crowd surfers, some stage diving and people opening the pit. They helped hype up the crowd with playing songs like “Breathe It In,” “Party Girl,” and “Drift,” while even having the crowd sing happy birthday to the guitarist Gabe, who would be celebrating his birthday the following day.
Bearings continued to hype up the crowd by playing some of their stand out tracks like “Blue in the Dark,” “Careless Clarity,” and “Aforementioned.” The crowd was getting more and more excited by the second and had lots of energy with multiple people dancing and crowd surfing while enjoying the music at the same time.
By the time Sleep On It came on, the crowd was anticipating a hype hometown show. Playing a headlining set, fans got to hear some favorites like “Fireworks,” “Distant,” “A New Way Home,” and “See You Around.” With lots of crowd surfing, dancing and some moshing the fans were having a fantastic time getting to see a band they’ve watched grow over the years from the Chicago scene to a headline set.
Some familiar faces of the Chicago scene were spotted around supporting their friends like some members of Belmont and Real Friends.
Holiday shows are always special since fans get to celebrate the upcoming holidays with some of their favorite bands. But Better Love, Young Culture, Bearings and Sleep On It made a small venue feel like home and a room of strangers feel like a family. The gig brought people together all while lending a helping hand to a great cause in the community.
