On a calm Tuesday night just outside of Boston, a crowd fills up the floor of Brighton Music Hall for Addison Grace. Everyone is energetic and excited for a night of music. After the first opening act of Kate Stephenson and her guitar, Sydney Rose is ready to take the stage. She’s fresh out of high school and already touring the country. Rose looks proud on stage, pointing out that her parents flew in from Georgia to see the show. She delves into her set, beginning with an ode to Phoebe Bridgers entitled “Phoebe Told Me.” The song is filled with references to the singer/songwriter, including the repeated outro mirroring that of Bridgers’ work, such as “Scott Street” and “Waiting Room.” Sydney Rose also performs a song that was written with up-and-coming pop singer/songwriter Ella Jane entitled “Cutting Corners.” The performer has a soft voice that expertly delivers heartfelt and personal lyrics. One of the highlights of her set was a song about her best friend heading off to college called “Bedroom Floor.” The song is about the fear of being left behind as the other people in your life move on to other things. Following the song, Sydney Rose introduces a cover for the audience. She’s set out to sing a new Phoebe Bridgers song each night of tour as an ode to the artist. The audience waits with bated breath before Rose reveals that she’ll be covering “Punisher.” Excitement rushes over the crowd, and her voice perfectly encaptures the gentle longing of the song and is just as soothing as the original. The highlight of the set was Sydney Rose’s pure elation when the audience raises their phone lights for her during a slow song. She grows emotional and grins, beaming from ear to ear as her set closes. Sydney Rose has left her mark on the crowd, and her star power is evident to anyone who gazes upon her performing.
