A Thursday night with Reneé Rapp may be on the short side, given her nine-song repertoire, but it is most definitely sweet. With a week’s notice, the Broadway rising star turned pop princess filled the O2 Forum Kentish Town with a bevy of her most dedicated fans, who piled in for her biggest show to date.
Having upgraded the venue twice before making her appearance, Reneé opened the show with her aptly-named track Everything to Everyone (Intro) to a thunderous reception, setting the high-energy tone for the rest of the evening. Peppering the pauses between songs with anecdotes and interjections, the audience were kept entertained, hanging on to every word and melody, armed with inside jokes shared by the idol and her fans.
The set was sentimental and vibrant all at once, moving from the more emotional offerings “Don’t Tell My Mom,” and “What Can I Do,” all the way to the viral hit “Too Well,” which closed things up in style and sent the crowd wild. The night wouldn’t have been complete without perhaps her most famous ballad, “In The Kitchen,” sung back in full voice by the floor to Reneé, who was delighted by the English twang she noticed in the bridge.
Clearly grateful that her exclusive Europe venture has been a resounding success, Reneé is at the start of what can surely only progress into worldwide acclaim – her vocals are second to none and her relatability and realness will charm you upon first listen. The battle for tickets next time around will undoubtedly be even tougher for a singer that has the potential to fill arenas with her power.
