Last Wednesday, I had the honor of attending Patrick Droney’s The Runaway Tour here in Austin, TX at the historic Scoot Inn. Right off the bat, I had several fans ask if I had seen Patrick’s shows before, and they passionately filled me in with memorable details about his music and previous shows. I knew I was in for a treat.
Cecilia Castleman kicked off the night, and fans were supportive and receptive of her lovely voice and guitar riffs. In between songs, she shared that this was her first tour and earnestly described her experience traveling through our city and the anxious feelings she had while alone on stage. Her honesty made it easy to connect with an audience that was mostly unfamiliar with her work, and I am so excited to see her confidence grow as she steps onto more stages.
I was immediately drawn in by Patrick Droney’s passionate performance; he seemed at home on stage as he flipped his hair and grooved to the music as fans cheered him on. His connection with his audience felt like something greater than the typical relationship between artist and fans, taking moments to chat with the crowd and graciously telling us that there was nowhere else he’d rather be. His playful humility and genuine passion for performing really struck me, and this show reminded me of every single reason I love live music.
Technically, his performance was phenomenal. His guitar riffs captured the attention of every single audience member, and he never skipped a beat, despite jumping around on stage and regularly stepping to the edge of the stage to sing with his fans.
I highly recommend catching a show on The Runaway Tour for both exciting music and passionate performances alike. This show had me hooked, and I’m happy to report that Droney’s most recent release Subtitles for Feelings has made its way into my repeat playlist since catching him live.
