The crowd at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston was buzzing on Saturday night for 5 Seconds of Summer’s Take My Hand Tour. The venue, sat on Boston’s waterfront, was packed with an eager crowd at the sold-out show. The concert was long overdue—originally scheduled for September 2, 2020 and then June 1, 2021—it was evident that the crowd was ready for the show to begin.
Enter Pale Waves, the opening band from Manchester, UK. The crowd immediately stood up, ready to dance with the band. The band – comprised of singer and rhythm guitarist Heather Baron-Gracie, lead guitarist Hugo Silvani, bassist Charlie Wood, and drummer Ciára Doran – were ready to put on a show. One fan in the front of the crowd sang every song, not missing a beat. It was clear that Pale Waves’ fans were just as dedicated as 5SOS’s.
Dressed in leather pants and their best black attire, the band performed a handful of anthemic pop punk songs and some more slow and emotional pieces. It was clear that Wood and Doran had a great rapport, often playing to each other, while Baron-Gracie and Silvani had a similar connection. Baron-Gracie’s ability to run across the stage and still deliver powerful vocals was outstanding. A special moment during the set was during “She’s My Religion” when the stage lights formed a beautiful rainbow for the song. The overall standouts from the set were “Easy,” “Fall to Pieces,” and “She’s My Religion.” It’s safe to say that the band gained a multitude of fans from their performance.
Be sure to arrive early to the North American leg of 5 Seconds of Summer’s Take My Hand Tour to catch Pale Waves’s set, and be sure to check out their new album Unwanted, coming August 12, 2022.
