On Tuesday, September 24th, Mallrat, Allday, and Japanese Wallpaper found themselves at the Voltage Lounge. Tucked away off of a side-street, the Voltage Lounge is a hidden gem in Philly’s music scene. It’s intimate, lively, and the perfect hole-in-the-wall venue to play at.

I’ll be 100% honest right now and say that this was the most packed I had ever seen the Voltage Lounge. From the floor to the balcony, everyone was dancing and singing along (including the venue staff).

The night began with Japanese Wallpaper, who did an amazing job of getting the crowd excited for the rest of the night. Their music was fun and easy to dance along to. The audience noticed how catchy their tunes were right away, and were very engaged in watching their set.

Allday took the stage soon after, and kept up high energy throughout the set. Whether it was their first time seeing him perform or their tenth time, the crowd absolutely loved his performance. This proved true when Mallrat brought him out to help perform their collaboration, “UFO”, and the crowd went absolutely wild.

Mallrat brought the house down as well, and was incredibly interactive with the crowd. She’s one of the few artists I’ve seen where you need to see them live in order to have the full experience. I also loved that she brought out Allday and Japanese Wallpaper back out to play songs with her. It’s always a wonderful feeling to see the friendships between artists.

Later on into the night, the crowd spontaneously broke out into a chorus, singing “Happy Birthday” to Mallrat, who would be celebrating her 21st. She referred to it as “sneaky and cute”, and her fans were clearly pleased to see the smile on her face. All throughout the night, the crowd was jumping and singing along, and even chanted for an encore. She happily obliged, and jumped on top of the bar to perform her hit song, “Groceries”.

Without a single doubt, this was the most impressive show I’ve ever seen at the Voltage Lounge. I’m incredibly excited to see Mallrat, Japanese Wallpaper, and Allday the next time any of them find themselves in Philadelphia; they each know how to put on an insane show.
