On Friday September 20th, Hoodie Allen and Jake Miller found themselves in Philadelphia for the second night of the Whatever USA Tour. Performing at the Theatre of Living Arts in the center of the South Street nightlife, both acts were met with an audience that was ready to have a great time.

Jake Miller took the stage first, and had no issue hyping up the crowd immediately. With a setlist filled with new jams and throwback songs (and a cover of “Mr. Brightside”, for all you Killers fans out there), Jake was met with an audience that was eager to match his energy. With every song, the crowd was singing back to him and dancing along.

A great night at the TLA got even better when Hoodie Allen took the stage. Between throwing cakes into the audience and crowdsurfing on a raft, Hoodie made sure to crack jokes and connect with the audience and his band. The sense of community between the fans, Hoodie Allen, and his band was refreshing, and wonderful to see.

Both Jake Miller and Hoodie Allen absolutely nailed their performances, and they raised the bar for future artists who play at the TLA. The energy in the crowd during both sets was amazing; it was that amazing, rare sense of connection among the fans and the artists that comes out at some shows. I highly recommend checking out the Whatever USA Tour when it comes near you — it exceeded every possible expectation I had, and I’m excited to see both Jake and Hoodie the next time they visit Philly.
