Cigarettes After Sex found themselves playing a sold out show at Union Transfer this Saturday. Having just released their new album, Cry, the day before, it was safe to say that their fans were looking forward to seeing the band live.

Rather than have an opener, the show was started with a short film. The film, titled “You’re The Only Good Thing In My Life”, features a black and white shot of a rainy beach. Lyrics and short phrases occasionally fade over the shot as ambient music plays in the background.

I personally loved the choice to play a short film before the show began. It set the tone for Cigarettes After Sex’s set perfectly, and is a unique concept that I haven’t experienced at a show before.

Cigarettes After Sex played an amazing show. With a setlist consisting of new songs and older fan-favorites, they did not disappoint. When they weren’t dancing and singing along, the fans were cheering in between songs and shouting for an encore.

There are few artists that sound just as incredible live as they do recorded, but Cigarettes After Sex is one of them. Hearing their dreamy, ethereal music live is an experience that is unlike any other, and I highly recommend it.

Though their final show in the U.S. of this tour is in Boston on the 27th, they’ve still got plenty of European shows coming up over the next month; you can grab tickets to them here.

Their new album, Cry, is available now – you can stream it here.
