French guitarist and vocalist Laura Cox is paving her way into the rock n roll music scene, with sounds of bluegrass and pop intertwined into her music. The album Head Above Water has an amazing range of different sounds and shows off Cox’s abilities as both a singer and guitarist.

The title track “Head Above Water” hits the listeners with a rhythmic drum beat that you can’t help but tap your foot along to. The song is a reminder to keep pushing through any and every situation, “it’s alright, you’ll be fine, one way or another,” which seems to be the message of this particular song.

While the first three tracks give Cox the opportunity to show off her instrumental skills, the fourth track “Set Me Free” really highlights her vocal skills, allowing the audience to take in her ability to stretch notes with ease.

Then taking a step back and slowing things down in “Old Soul,” which sounds like a southern-inspired track. “Wiser” speeds the album back up with notes of blues and pop colliding to still mesh and create a rock n roll sound. The album ends on the eleventh track “Glassy Days” which mellows out the album, calming the listener to close the album out.

All in all, the album has an incredible way of blending genres together without losing the rock n roll feel overall.

Laura Cox brings hard-hitting rock n roll to meet sprinkles of pop, chunks of bluegrass country, and soft almost dreamy tones to create the album Head Above Water.

This album is well worth listening to if you’re looking for a wicked guitarist who can do it all!

Laura Cox takes the cake in the ability to give you a taste of every genre, allowing people the opportunity to venture out in listening to new sounds they might not consider before.
