Youngstown, Ohio natives The Safest Ledge just dropped the video for their newest single, “Mountain Eyes”. The four-piece alternative outfit’s latest track transcends the expectations of their genre, while also packing a punch of nostalgia that’s reminiscent of the early 2010’s alternative and post-hardcore scenes.

“Mountain Eyes” starts with frontman Kennedy Conti’s vocals gently guiding the listener into the verse, right before hitting us full force thirty seconds in and showcasing his vocal range (which, may I add, is insane).

Reminiscent of the work of Kyle Pavone (We Came As Romans) and Josh Franceschi (You Me At Six), the lyrics and vocals are still so unique and evolved that there isn’t anything quite like them.

What makes “Mountain Eyes” a successful track, though, isn’t the lyrics, vocals, or instrumentation on their own — it’s how they work together.

There’s never a moment in the song where anything feels out of place. Mason Boano (guitar), Mike Orf (bass), and Joey Koval (drums) each create elements that are packed with intent and feeling. When Conti’s vocals go to reach new heights, the instrumentation meets him there. When the song approaches it’s calmer moments, everything slows down. It’s as if every element of the track is having a conversation with each other, pushing and pulling the listener through the verses so that we feel the music, not just listen to it.

It’s a purposeful and controlled rollercoaster of raw emotion and catharsis, and that’s why The Safest Ledge stands out. It’s something that’s so rare to find in an artist, but when you do find it, it’s next-level.

In those three minutes and twenty-seven seconds that make up “Mountain Eyes”, The Safest Ledge prove themselves to be the next big thing in this scene.
