If you’re searching for a band to invest in as an original fan, look no further – The Backfires are alive and kicking in their newest release “Reflections on My TV,” a stirring, guitar-heavy rumination upon a dysfunctional relationship. The four-piece, hailing from both sides of the Atlantic and based in New York, match anthemic instrumentals with intimate yet strong vocals, reminiscent of our favourite 2000s indie bands, which invoke a rare and interesting sense of nostalgia unique to this ultimately up-and-coming band.

The influences that The Backfires have embraced are clear, but they comfortably carve out their own space in the sphere with this captivatingly catchy track. Recalling the breakdown of a love turned sour and the healing process, it becomes easy to find your own meaning within the lyrics, drawing upon the universal feelings of longing to make things work. This underlying sentiment is present across their discography, notably in “Anything,” another standout. Slower and more considerate than some of their other upbeat tracks, “Reflections on My TV” exposes new listeners to an impressive versatility, leaving us to look forward to hearing where the group progress to next.

As the name of their 2021 EP states, you should “Consider the Backfires” your next indie obsession. Make sure to back them by getting down to Boston, Philly or NYC to watch them supporting the Courteeners.
