After three long awaited years, Ska-punk band, Stacked Like Pancakes makes an exciting return with their new single, “So Close Yet So Far”. A song about gaining motivation to jump back into your passions after being unmotivated for so long.
In the beginning of the song lead singer, Kellen Mckay sings, “Let’s try pickin it up again / Now that we know what it cost,” referencing to not having released music in years due to the 2020 pandemic and other challenges. The band sings lyrics that are relatable to listeners who have similarly been challenged during the pandemic in more ways than one. Mckay is both raw and honest as he understands that after experiencing fame, he now has something to lose and is motivated now more than ever to make music he and his band members are passionate about.
With clear influence and inspiration by bands like Twenty One Pilots and Blink-182, the song itself was said to have been written “at the height of the pandemic as an anthem for normalcy”. The band recalls the good times they had previously experienced at the height of their career, remembering the good memories and music they made with excitement and passion. They will circle back to those feelings with the release of this new single.
The fun music video features stock photos and a few clips of the band members themselves. It illustrates lyrics with literal images of what is described in the song. It’s fun, energetic, and entertaining for viewers and listeners.
The song pleads for wanting normalcy after almost two years of living in a pandemic stricken world. SLP lets their fans know in “So Close Yet So Far” that they’re ready to make a comeback and The Pancake Nation is excited and ready for more music to come!
