Despite their most recent album being released in 2018, Mayday Parade hasn’t taken a break from the music scene. They have been slowly releasing singles such as “New Years Project” and their Christmas single “I’m With You”. On March 6th of 2020, they continued their streak of releasing singles by putting out the track “It Is What It Is” with a lyric video to match.
This track opens with the familiar guitar heavy sound that Mayday Parade fans have come to love followed by lyrics that go to say that despite whatever happens, “it is what it is”. The sound is reminiscent of their older music with the lyrics reminding me of their previous albums, mainly A Lesson In Romantics. My favorite line from the song “I forgot to face all your pictures down” feels nostalgic of “If You Wanted A Song Written About You All You Had To Do Was Ask”.
As a long time fan of Mayday Parade, this single does not disappoint and holds the pop punk sound that drew me to this band in the first place. You can watch the lyric video and listen to their new single below.
