Kurt Deimer is proof that it’s never too late to go after your dreams. Dropping his debut album, And So it Begins…, at 59 years old, Kurt is making quite the mark on the rock scene. The album starts off strong with “Dance”, an uptempo hard rock song full of guitar riffs and hooks that leave you wanting to play it again and again.
With 17 songs on the tracklist, there’s a little something for everyone. I’m personally a huge fan of faster paced, guitar heavy tracks (which the album isn’t lacking), but for those who are fans of slower or acoustic tracks, Kurt delivers with “My Dad” and “How’d I Get Here”.
When you think of a hard rock band, a lot of people think of a lead singer with a somewhat higher voice (think Motley Crue and AC/DC). Kurt’s vocals, however, are lower and he uses an almost spoken-word style on quite a few of the tracks. His unique voice and style works well and sets him apart from other artists of the genre. Pair that with the guitar solos from Phil X (of Bon Jovi) and this feels like an album that will leave a lasting mark in the rock scene.
If I had one complaint of And So it Begins…, I would say that less is often more. At 17 tracks, it does seem to be a little lengthy, with a few of the songs blending together. All in all though, Kurt has put out a strong album with quite a few standout tracks–my personal favorites being “Dance”, “Live or Die”, “Sunset Boulevard”, and “How’d I Get Here”.
With a debut album this compelling, I would say that Kurt Deimer is definitely an artist to keep an eye on.
