Three-Time Grammy Nominated and award-winning singer, songwriter, and Guitarist James Bay released his third album, Leap. This album was highly anticipated and has been well received among his fans. We were pleased to sit alongside other outlets and talk with him about this album.

James Bay has a very calm demeanor to him that makes you instantly feel relaxed and like you’ve known him your whole life and that is very clear even through the zoom call. James tells us that his album has a sort of warmth to it and I cannot help but agree because it truly feels like the sun coming up and hitting your face. When asked what his favorite song on this album is, he tells us “Endless Summer Nights.” It is about an endless summer night and he describes how it’s like camping out for a show and it’s finally time for that show as the lights come on and the air is hazy. It is a truly beautiful picture to imagine. James Bay would like to change the status he holds as writing sad music. He wants to write an anthem of hope and he hopes it reflects on this album.

In regards to his collaborations with producers such as Finneas or other songwriters such as Ed Sheeran, he says that “there is sort of nothing like it.” He likes to go into these collabs with no ideas and just see what happens organically with others at the moment. This play into the fact that James writes the majority of his music on personal experiences and he really wants to have music that is completely natural.

The album is out in full now and you can find it where you usually listen to your music. James recommends that you listen to it in transit as it’s best to listen to it when you can really dissociate and take it all in. You can see James live in the US when he begins his tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 17th.
