Highwind is a band quickly on the rise. The two piece pop rock duo from Asbury Park, New Jersey released “Afterlife (Acoustic)” as a way to say goodbye to the “How’ve You Been?” era based on their EP released earlier in 2019. The original version of “Afterlife (How’ve You Been?)” was on this EP.

The laid back instrumentals mixed with the gripping voice of Chris Russo makes for a beautiful song. With a strong opening of “Hey, buddy, how’ve you been? I hope the afterlife is treating you well up there” immediately pulls anyone listening in. The lyrics continue to be touching as the song continues with beautiful lines such as “There’s still just so much more I wish that I got to say” “I’m thinking maybe you’ve made a new friend or two / Another angel, someone as sweet as you.” The entire song conveys so much emotion, but in the newest acoustic version of the song, the audience can truly hear every emotion. Highwind reaches out a hand to let fans enjoy a deeper version of Afterlife. The song is not only fantastic in the musical sense, but also in the sense of what music is supposed to do, be a way of connecting.

Highwind is not slowing down anytime soon, and this acoustic version proves how much this band wants to truly connect with the fans and those who need someone to turn to and find ways to express themselves.

The acoustic version of “Afterlife” extends a hand to those who need it. There is such a distinct sense of raw emotion in the song, which brings comfort to readers. You can stream it below.
