On January 9th, Halsey released a music video for her new song “You Should Be Sad.”
This song is unlike those she has previously released for her upcoming album, titled MANIC, which comes out on January 17th of this year. It opens up with a small country guitar twang accompanied by lyrics that discuss getting over heartbreak. Throughout the track, she goes onto discuss how she attempted to fix her ex, but finds out that nothing could fill the hole inside of him.
Halsey stated in a tweet on the night of the release that there were numerous nods to the female artists Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood and Shania Twain, as those are her idols.
Since hearing this song, it has quickly become one of my favorite tracks by her, and has been on repeat since its release. This single shows the listeners a a more intimate side to her, and the heartbreak she has experienced.
