On September 29th, Jersey native Halsey celebrated her 25th birthday by dropping her new single “Clementine” alongside a lighthearted music video. The video features the singer performing a choreographed dance routine with her brother, Sevian Frangipane, in an aquarium. The entire performance is very reminiscent of musical theater. Think Annie.

The song itself is a definite departure from the usual darker-sounding pop she typically produces, but she has changed her art and style beautifully for this song.

Halsey can be heard throughout the chorus echoing her own vocals, screaming, “I don’t need anyone!” in a stubborn, childlike manner that’s matched perfectly with the simple piano backing.

Both songs (“Graveyard” and “Clementine”) that Halsey has dropped in anticipation for her new album Manic, have been so completely different from anything we’ve heard from her before. Both have truly showcased her talent and versatility as a creator and performer.

We look forward to seeing Halsey’s talents unfurl even further with Manic, currently slated to be released on January 20, 2020.

You can stream “Clementine” here.
