Gina Alice unveils a new side of herself, debuting as a solo artist with her single “Slo-Mo,” under Republic Records on June 21st, 2024.
Gina’s musical journey began at age four when she first sat at a piano. Her talent quickly gained international recognition, leading her to perform at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall, as well as receive widespread success with her classical album, Wonderland She also made her mark collaborating with Disney on projects such as the Chinese version of “Frozen 2” and and collaborating with her husband Lang Lang on his The Disney Book LP.
Throughout her musical journey, Gina developed a passion for songwriting, always feeling drawn towards pop, R&B, and jazz. Rooted in her classical training, this mix reflects her diverse heritage—half-European and half-Asian—a juxtaposition she describes eloquently:
“My background is similar to how I’m grounded in classical music, but my heart’s burning for pop music. It’s like having different personalities inside of you at the same time. They all make sense together, and that’s just who I am.”
Gina’s single “Slo-Mo” heralds the next chapter of her musical journey as she brings her dreams to life.
The track opens with three melodic neon-keys accompanied by a soft ambient backdrop that persists throughout, evoking a trance-like atmosphere. Gina’s vocals, clear and sultry, effortlessly weave in influences from jazz and R&B. As the chorus unfolds, the tempo shifts and interweaves some pop-elements, inviting listeners to bounce along to the beat. The lyrics flow seamlessly with the instrumental, adding to the sultry and flirtatious vibe of the overall track as she urges throughout each chorus, “Love me slo-mo.”
Gina explains the process of creating “Slo-Mo,” saying:
“It started with me playing piano chords. I was vibing over the harmonies and finding the mood. It’s more of a sexy and vibey song. It’s about this feeling when you meet someone and connect. You really feel the good moments, but they pass too fast, so you want them in ‘Slo-Mo’.”
With “Slo-Mo,” Gina Alice invites her audience to join her on the next phase of her journey.
