Demi Lovato is an artist who has been on display from a very young age. From Barney to Disney to Pop Star, Demi Lovato is stripping it all down and getting back to their roots. HOLY FVCK is raw with songs like, “29”, “Dead Friends”, and “Skin of My Teeth” where she gets real with heavy emotions such as survivors guilt, battling addiction, inappropriate age gaps in “relationships”. Lovato shares a vulnerable piece of themselves in this album that feels truly authentic.
The new sound in this album is not all that new to the artist however, back in 2008 they dropped the power pop rock album DON’T FORGET. Although HOLY FVCK is clearly the heaviest sound the artist has experimented with, it is fitting for the messages and emotions she is conveying which are dark and difficult for anyone to talk about.
There are however a few exceptions where the album steers into feelings of love and being sexually charged. “Come Together” at a glance seems like a love song but once you listen to the lyrics you reveal the true meaning which is sexually focused. “Wasted” is a track that discussed being completely head over heels for someone, the feeling of “being completely wasted off of love” Demi Lovato states in their track by track YouTube series.
“My new album HOLY FVCK is a deeply personal journey that begins with pain and anger, and through this emotional release, the album concludes in a hopeful place of joy that allows me to take my power back from the very things that made me angry,” Demi states. “I knew I wanted to showcase my new music in a unique way for my fans, both visually and sonically. So when an Original Live Performance with Vevo was on the table, I immediately started to brainstorm creatively – the lighting, the room design, my look and outfits, how to incorporate our incredible female live band – all of it! The Vevo team made this vision a reality with me, and I hope my fans can feel the emotion and power through these live performances.”
