When most people hear “Nashville,” their minds immediately think of country music. Tennessee-based Orthodox would like to make you think twice about that. Following their 2017 release, Sounds of Loss, Orthodox, have released their second studio full-length, Let It Take Its Course, on February 7th via Unbeaten Records.

The album opens with the track “Remorse.” This track is a great introduction to start the record. It features an eerie sound as it builds up heavier and heavier with the lyrics repeating the title of the album. It then immediately goes into the hard-hitting breakdowns of “Obsinity.”

The group debuted the first single from the album “I Can Show You God” via a premiere with Kerrang Magazine. I enjoyed this track a lot in particular, everything from the instrumentation to the lyrical content, it had a clear theme, and it went hard. “I Can Show You God” seems to be about the concept of fear. Vocalist Adam Easterling stated: “In this song, I’ve written that I’ve captured someone who’s done something horrible — something I’ve been obsessing over.”

The group premiered the title track “Let It Take It’s Course” with Revolver along with an accompanying video. Speaking about the track with Revolver, vocalist Adam Easterling stated: “This song is the title track for a reason. Pieces of the album throughout can be tied to it in some way, whether it be vocally, instrumentally, or lyrically — and I can’t wait to share all of the pieces with everyone.”

From beginning to end, I really enjoyed this album, from the heavy-hitting instrumentation to the varying themes throughout the lyrical content of the songs. If you enjoy the likes of System of A Down, Gojira, and Slipknot, you are sure to enjoy this album. The group is about to set out on tour with Spite and Varials, so make sure to go check out a show if it is hitting your area.
