Pop powerhouse, Haven, is destined to be the next big thing in the music industry. She’s been touring the nation since she was 15, and her tracks have even reached the top 10 of the Radio Disney charts.
We had the chance to speak with her about her latest singles, and what she has planned for the year.
Can you tell us about your newest singles, “Be With You” and “Sad & Successful”?
“The process for writing ‘Be With You’ was super rare. I was in a session & we had already written 2 songs that day. We had 30mins left & thought we’d try to knock out one more idea before I left & we ended up writing the whole song in 20mins. It literally felt like ‘Be With You’ fell out of the sky. We wrote it faster than we could type it. That almost never happens but it’s so cool when it does. My latest single ‘Sad & Successful’ is probably the most personal song I’ve written & released. I was in a writing session in LA & my family was celebrating my dad’s birthday in Nashville. They were sending me videos & I was feeling homesick & a little creatively drained. I remember just thinking… is me being here in this studio worth being away from the people I love… like at the end of the day when I’m successful, will all of this be worth it? The song poured out & my producer was actually recording me watching the videos from my family so at the end of the song you can here my mom say ‘We love you Kelsey’ (which is my real name) & it’s just so special to me. Obviously I love what I do, I love my team & LA so much, but sometimes you just have those moments of being homesick & I think we definitely captured that. It took a few hours to complete but months to finally release it. So I’m so excited for it to finally be out!”
What was it like when you found out you’d be touring with Dinah Jane?
“Honestly, I didn’t really believe it when I found out I was going on tour but I’M SO PUMPED! I’ve been wanting to go on tour for so long, so this is a dream come true for me. Performing & touring is my favorite part, so I can’t wait to meet everyone when it’s safe to do so!”
Who were you most excited to have worked with on your music?
“Aw man that’s a tough question. I’ve gotten to work with so many amazing producers & writers. Honestly they are all so talented, I’m always excited to work with new writers & producers to see what we create! It’s always crazy working with people who have written or produced songs you’ve been a fan of or grew up listening to.”
What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?
“My songwriting process is different every time but overall I am very melody driven. I let the melodies I write & hear drive how I’m feeling & what I feel like writing about. Sometimes the lyrics come first though & I’ll write music to the lyrics. It’s never the same, it really just depends if the music is inspiring me or I have a concept / lyric on my mind that inspires the rest.”
Do you have a dream tour or dream collab you’d like to be part of?
“My dream collab would be Shania, Bazzi, Selena, Julia Michaels & The Chainsmokers! I love all of them!”
What song do you currently have on repeat?
“I currently have ‘Adore You’ by Harry Styles on repeat!”
Who are your biggest inspirations at the moment?
“My biggest inspirations are Shania Twain, Bazzi, Selena Gomez, Julia Michaels & The Weekend!”
If your listeners could take one message from your music, what would you want it to be?
“If listeners could take one message from my music, I would want it to be that it’s okay to feel all of the emotions. I hope it makes people want to get up & dance or remember to call a loved one, or is something that they can relate to if they’re going through a breakup or hard time. It means the most to me when people say they relate to one of my songs or it helped them through a hard time. Music is healing.”
What are you looking forward to the most this year? Is there anything we should keep an eye out for?
“I’m looking forward to releasing new music! I’ll be releasing a new song about every 6 weeks & when it’s safe to do so I’ll be going on tour which I’m very excited about as well!”
