Alt-rock outfit Eliza & The Delusionals released their track “Just Exist” late 2019. The song landed a #1 spot on Alt Nation on SiriusXM, and rightfully so. “Just Exist” encapsulates everything that’s great about alt-rock, and front woman Eliza Klatt’s powerful vocals take the track to the next level.

We had the chance to speak with Eliza Klatt about the making of “Just Exist,” and what the band has in store for the new year.

Can you tell us your name, and your role in the band?

“I’m Eliza and I’m the singer/songwriter in Eliza & the Delusionals.”

Your single “Just Exist” released not too long ago. What was the writing and recording process was like for the track?

“Recording ‘Just Exist’ was at a really interesting time for the band. We had gone through some drastic changes personally and musically and I think it felt really good for all of us to put it all into this song. I remember playing around on an acoustic a while back and accidentally stumbling across the main riff, and everyone instantly connected with it when it came to rehearsing and forming the whole thing.”

What was it like working with Kon Kersting on “Just Exist?”

“We love working with Kon. We did our first EP with him a few years back and we loved the way he brought out the best in our sound and in our songs.”

When it comes to your music, do you have any particular inspirations?

“I think as a collective we love bands like Coldplay, Catfish & the Bottlemen and The 1975. We always feel really inspired by their songs and their live shows.”

“Just Exist” landed a #1 spot on Alt Nation on SiriusXM! What was that like?

“We really didn’t expect it. And being from the other side of the world it was really overwhelming and strange having something so cool happening but only being able to see it all through comments on social media. We are so grateful to Alt Nation for supporting us, and the listeners who really connected with ‘Just Exist.'”

You’re going on tour with Silversun Pickups soon. How did it feel to be asked to join them?

“It almost didn’t feel real. I bought their album Swoon when I was 14 and I’ve been listening to them since, so when we got asked to be on the tour it was unbelievable. When we later saw the venues as well we were even more excited.”

If listeners could take one message with them after listening to “Just Exist,” what would you want it to be?

“I think that being creative can be a good way to deal with sad emotions. Without these emotions, we would plainly ‘Just Exist.'”

What can we expect next from Eliza & The Delusionals?

“We spent a lot of 2019 behind the scenes working on new things, so you can expect a lot more touring and new music in 2020!”

It’s safe to say that Eliza & The Delusionals will be taking the world by storm! We can’t wait to see what they have lined up for 2020. You can check out their track “Just Exist” below, and grab tickets to their upcoming tour here.
