After experimenting with more of a pop sound on their 2018 album Youngblood, 5 Seconds of Summer has continued to grow and alter their sound, this time with “Easier”, the first single from their upcoming album. According to Luke Hemmings (vocals, guitar), the band has never been more confident about releasing a single from an album as they have been about “Easier”.

“Easier” uses lines such as “is it easier to stay, is it easier to go?” and “I love you so much that I hate you” to discuss a toxic relationship. Sticking with this somewhat dark theme, the video depicts the band chained up and, at one point, drowning.

Personally, I’ll be listening to this song on repeat until the fourth album is released, because with its catchy hooks and strong beat, there’s no denying that “Easier” has easily become one of my favorite songs of the year.
