Your debut album has been in the making for several years. Can you talk about the challenges and obstacles you faced during the creation of the album and the lessons you learned from them?
(Jack): We definitely faced many challenges, but I think the biggest one was that we all lived in different cities during the entirety of making the album. Biggest thing we learned with those circumstances was to be very present and focused when we were in the same room together, from writing the songs to just being in relationship with one another.
Can you talk about how your shared identity as a band developed through the creation of SELF TITLED, and how it influenced the sound?
We all just started listening to more types of music. I grew a love for 90s hip hop and R&B, Brandon was super into funk and anything that grooves, and Troy was vibing with a lot of electronic stuff like Tycho and RÜFÜS DU SOL and we all as a band grew a big admiration of the band Radiohead. All just growing up and broadening what we listen to played a big role in the type of music we wanted to make.
Can you walk us through the process of sequencing the album to tell a story of self-doubt, self-reflection, and eventually, self-love?
Yes, I think we live in a time where self-image is something that most of us are concerned about. From social media becoming a part of our everyday lives, we continuously have comparisons happening in our minds with other people, and oftentimes neglect just loving ourselves, eliminating a lot of selfconfidence and self love. That was a common topic of conversation throughout the album writing process amongst the three of us, and it all just kinda stemmed together as a group of songs that we hope can encourage someone going through a tough time.
Can you share a story or experience that inspired one of the songs on the album?
“BLUE” is a great example, we wanted to write a song about learning to listen to eachother. There’s a lot of division in the world and sometimes we just need to have open ears to listen to the pain someone has been through instead of proving a point in an argument.
“BALLET” touches on the importance of self-love and acceptance. How do you hope your music can help listeners feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin?
I always hope someone feels something positive from our music, I really hope with this batch of songs people can just take time to themselves to truly find that love and acceptance for who they are.
It’s been a week since the release of “BALLET” and you teased on Instagram that fans can expect something special next week. Can you give us a little hint of what the surprise is?
The surprise was the music video that was released for the song. It’s the first music video we’ve done that we weren’t actually on camera, my wife created a beautiful dance piece that we felt complimented the song perfectly and we wanted just that to be the video.
You’re currently touring with Colony House. Can you talk about how fans have received the new songs, and can you share some highlights from the tour so far?
We keep saying it but we feel like we’re getting spoiled on this tour. A lot of times you go and open for a band and no one really knows who you are and they don’t know how to feel about the set, and colony house’s fans have been nothing but loving and excited and full of energy. All the shows have been so perfect, but Cleveland specifically has a special place in our hearts after the show we played on this tour. Can’t wait to go back!
How do you hope the album will connect with people across the globe?
I hope it connects with people how it needs to connect with them, you can only hope that people feel something but sometimes that’s not the case. Sometimes people just need to vibe and that’s amazing.
Can you share any plans or goals for the future of Little Image beyond the release of SELF TITLED?
We really hope to go on tour overseas for this album cycle. Always been a dream of ours, and we’ve also been planning a potentially fun thing in our hometown Dallas, TX around the album release.
