It’s always bittersweet to listen to an artist’s work postmortem, especially when they were taken way too soon. You’re reminded by their music of the amazing trek they were on. Lil Peep was one of those artists and listening to the alt-rapper Cold Hart’s new single featuring Lil Peep, “Me and You,” was no exception.

“Me and You,” is a previously unreleased track from Peep’s career-launching mixtape, Crybaby Sessions. The song highlights the classic form of both artists as well as heartfelt lyrics, and an infectious melody over a bold Charlie Shuffler beat. The song in it of itself is a beautiful haunting storytelling of loving someone until the very end, but when put together with the context of the release grants the title of a clairvoyant eulogy from one friend to another.

The lyrics themselves do an amazing form of storytelling in the story of two lovers separated by death. From Lil Peep raspily asking if they’ll lie with them until they die (“Would you lie here ‘til I die?”) to the opposite parallel of Cold Hart reminiscing of a lost love on the drive home or while smoking (“Took the long way home // Bumping all our song.” “I miss you the most, when I’m smoking dope.”) It’s a storytelling that is unique to Lil Peep, but with Cold Hart added in adds an element to the song that makes it one you find yourself listening to repeatedly.

Overall, the song is an amazing addition to the unreleased tracks that have been released in honor – or remembrance – of Lil Peep, and will hopefully bring new fans to his previous work as well as Cold Hart’s.
