Last month Los Angeles-based rock band Bad Suns released their single “I’m Not Having Any Fun,” which is a b-side from their album Mystic Truth. The song talks of a relationship going awry in the internet age.

Despite the name of the song, this song is definitely one you can have fun too whether that’s dancing along or singing at the top of your lungs. The song follows a story-telling format that I personally think makes songs more interesting to listen to and slightly timeless. Overall, the instrumentals gave a movie magic vibe – almost like a coming of age film – and the use of similes in the lyrics, such as “words get spun like webs,” added just enough depth to push “I’m Not Having Any Fun” out of “fun jingle” to “great song”.

While I can see why “I’m Not Having Any Fun” didn’t find a place on Mystic Truth, different tones, I am glad that the band decided to hold on to the song for a later release. As it not only gives off summer time vibes, but also is a nice fun way to rediscover Mystic Truth and Bad Suns, while we all overcome not having any fun.
