On March 11, Movements stopped in Charlotte, North Carolina for their 2025 Spring Tour.
Downward, a Tulsa, Oklahoma based band, started the night. Their set started soft and slow before ramping up to a loud, chaotic stream of songs. They were a great choice to start off the night.
Scowl brought a punchy and punky set. Singer Kat Moss is an absolute firecracker on stage. She’s mesmerizing to watch as she commands the entire room and makes it impossible to look away. Guitarists Malachi Green and Mikey Bifolco, bassist Bailey Lupo, and drummer Cole Gilbert match Moss’ energy perfectly. Their new album Are We All Angels releases on April 4 and they made sure to play the singles. “Not Hell, Not Heaven”, “Tonight (I’m Afraid)”, and “B.A.B.E.” highlighted what’s to come from the new release.
The room absolutely buzzed as Citizen took to the stage covered in moody dark red lighting. Being a pop punk scene staple, there was a serious anticipation for their set and it showed in the way the crowd buzzed. Starting with “The Night I Drove Alone” was an incredible choice. The entire crowd screamed along to the lyrics and set up for an unforgettable set. They played other YOUTH favorites “Sleep” and “The Summer” which resulted in the most energy from the crowd. There was not a single person standing still in that packed room. Another stand out song was “In the Middle of It All” as it felt so ethereal and memorable. Citizen ended their set with “I Want to Kill You” and successfully warmed up the crowd for what was to come.
As a long-time fan of Movements, I always look forward to seeing them. Every time, without fail, they outdo the last tour with a great setlist and phenomenal onstage energy. This was their biggest headlining show in Charlotte. Last time they were here, in 2022, they played The Underground, the little sister venue to The Fillmore—which is where this unforgettable night took place.
Their setlist was a perfect mix of all their music. Starting with “Afraid to Die”, their 2024 summer single release was a great choice. It highlighted one of their newer songs but showed the crowd what kind of vibe the rest of the set had in store for them. Each album was also showcased evenly. Feel Something songs “Full Circle”, “Colorblind”, “Third Degree”, and “Deep Red” were sprinkled throughout the set. My personal favorite, No Good Left to Give had “Skin to Skin”, “No Good Left to Give”, and “Love Took the Last of It”. Movements’ newest full length release RUCKUS! had its time to shine as well. “Killing Time”, “Lead Pipe”, and “A.M.P.” were played—just to name a few. Their newest single “Where I Lay” was also showcased. Singer Patrick Miranda took a moment to speak to the audience about the song. He announced that the crowd in Orlando, the previous night’s show, had sung along to it the loudest and challenged the Charlotte crowd to beat them. I might be biased but I think we were definitely the loudest!
As always, Movements ended the night with “Daylily”. I loved just standing in the back and watching the entire room sing along. The crowd was so much louder than the band. It’s a feeling I will never get used to or tired of.
