Earlier this month, popular LGBTQ+ influencer and artist Jessie Paege released her second single, “Phantom,” along with a new music video.

The track starts soft, yet strong, with an isolated vocal singing the beginning of the first verse. As the verse progresses, an instrumental is added that adds some bass as the powerful chorus hits. The verse that follows goes back to the soft, melodic vocal style of the first. The bridge features a guitar solo, and then takes us back into the chorus to finish off the song.

The “Phantom” music video tells the story of a relationship gone bad. Paege is in a mentally abusive and toxic relationship, represented by her partner writing “anorexic,” “prude,” and “too tall” on her body in red. These are all insecurities that she’s touched on in multiple videos on her YouTube channel, and in tweets and Instagram posts. By the end of the video, she’s out of the relationship and washes off the writing, symbolizing healing and moving forward. Both the video and the track’s cover art feature Paege in a costume inspired by the popular Nickelodeon cartoon character Danny Phantom.

The release of “Phantom” follows Paege’s first track, a bisexual pride anthem titled “Not a Phase” (featuring Lucy & La Mer), and precedes her upcoming single (the name of which has not been revealed yet), set to release January 17, 2020.

“Phantom” is an anthem for those of us who’ve had to deal with bad relationships and toxic people. It’s a song about healing, and moving on from those who’ve hurt us. We definitely recommend adding this one to your breakup playlist.
