Alec Benjamin released his latest single, “Mind Is A Prison,” on December 12th.

He had performed the song on some stops off his “Caught In The Middle” Tour explaining that it would be part of his upcoming sophomore album. He said that he’d “been writing a lot for my album and [this song is] a lot about being stuck inside my head, so this song is called “My Mind Is A Prison.” Maybe you can relate.”

The song starts slow-paced while Benjamin explains how he doesn’t have control of his destiny. It starts to build slowly as he continues, saying that he feels stuck inside his head, and like he’s just a visitor.

If there’s a constant with Benjamin is that no matter how gloomy his songs start, he’ll always add a positive thought which can be seen during the bridge when he sings “Said even if it’s true, no matter what I do // I’m never gonna escape // I won’t give up on hope, secure another rope // And try for another day,” reminding the listener that everything it’s going to be okay.

“Mind Is A Prison” is another example of Benjamin’s ability to bring a story to life through captivating storytelling and curated images while still relating to his audience and showing authenticity and honesty.
