New York City/Los Angeles-based alternative singer-songwriter Alexa Dark shared her new single “Alibi.” The track is a sultry, sensual, and glamorous ode to romanticizing all parts of life, unfolding like a 1960s Hollywood film that blurs the lines of fantasy and reality.
Dark shared that the track “came together in a day in LA. It’s inspired by the seductive pull of the forbidden and my habit of over-romanticizing situations and people–even bad ideas and toxic lovers. It’s an ode to that, a fantasy come to life.” It was written by songwriter Simon Oscroft (The Aces, UPSAHL) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Arctic Monkeys, Mac Miller).
Raised between Barcelona, Munich, and London, Dark began writing songs early, influenced by various artists, from Jack White to Patsy Kline to Françoise Hardy to Nancy Sinatra. She also finds inspiration from the cinema of French New Wave and Old Hollywood noir and brings that aesthetic into every piece of music she makes.
The track opens with sexy guitar strums, flowing into Dark’s powerful and intricate vocals. As “Alibi” continues, she adds sensual percussion and layers her voice to create a sonic experience with daring harmonies. The track is smoldering as she sways between loud and quiet vocals, exposing her complicated emotions as she travels through the song.
