As the year comes to an end, shows start slowing down and musicians begin to plan their 2024. However, before that we were able to go out with a bang by attending KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas. Blending old school alternative with modern day indie rock, this year’s Almost Acoustic Christmas was sure to be the event of the year. Despite a small hiccup of Red Hot Chili Peppers having an injury and 311 stepping up in less than a week, the Kia Forum was alive with fans of all ages.

The Beaches opened the show with an electric set, setting the night up for success. They were one of the most exciting acts of the night, with Shirley Manson of Garbage confessing her adoration of the women. Bakar followed, bringing a plethora of joy to the stage. The artist couldn’t stop smiling, so ecstatic to be there that he almost joined the crowd during his set. Lovejoy, hailing from Brighton, UK, was next. The crowd erupted when they came out, clearly a fan favorite. The band brought Brit rock to the states that night, with an arena of music lovers jamming out and jumping along.

Cannons was the next band onstage, playing dreamy indie rock as singer Michelle Joy floated across the stage. Bleachers was the most energetic band of the night, with saxophone solos aplenty. Lead singer and producer Jack Antonoff brought out his dad, Rick Antonoff, making it a family affair. “Modern Girls” which is the lead single from their self-titled album had the crowd dancing along. Portugal. The Man followed with a full band that had the crowd vibing along to familiar songs. Garbage was a standout set from the night with Shirley Manson skipping across the stage. Despite a brief stop of the show for safety, they carried on without a hitch and Shirley even trekked to the back of the arena to share a song with the crowd. Even as a last minute addition, 311 had the crowd excited for their set. The band and crowd alike were dancing. The Offspring closed out the night with a band that spanned generations, packing a punch in just ten songs or so.

It’s safe to say that this year’s event was a massive success – and ticket holders still have more fun to come! To make it up to fans after having to drop the show, Red Hot Chili Peppers will be having a show at Kia Forum on March 2, 2024 so hold onto those tickets. We’re already looking forward to next year’s show!
