Caitlin Notey, now known as Lou Roy and previously known as Huxlee, is a singer-songwriter from LA.
On November 15th, she released her latest project, and her debut under her new moniker, Your Friend,, an EP made up of 4 songs.
Roy explained to Indie Midlands that she decided to call the EP Your Friend, “stylized as an email or letter sign off, as a way to state my intentions. It specifically references a line in ‘Bite’: I only ever want to be your friend / but it’s not enough to say / I’ve gotta treat you that way. I always mean to be a good friend to the people I write songs about, but admittedly I sometimes fall short. Each song in one way or another acknowledges how we all try to be our best selves but don’t always come through.”
Soft-spoken but filled with emotion, pinpointing a specific sound to this record seems almost impossible but one thing is for sure, it sounds dreamy and nostalgic, almost familiar, with a bit of Maggie Rogers’ style but at the same time very authentic and unique. In Roy’s own words, it’s “sharp, airy, brutal, cracked, heavy, mythic”.
With folk and pop elements, it’s the perfect companion for a road trip in the desert passing through sunset.
