As a long time fan of Matt Maeson, ever since he released his EP Who Killed Matt Maeson in 2017, I had very high expectations as I entered Theatre of Living Arts on March 30th. I was immediately greeted with reciprocated excitement from the sold-out crowd as I entered the venue that evening.
With a stripped stage set-up, Matt Maeson performed a bare-bones show that sent chills through the entire crowd. Starting off the set with songs new and old, Matt Maeson put on a display of undeniable vocal talent. Between songs, Maeson shared the stories of the experiences that inspired the songs he wrote. In the spirit of ignorant youth seeking thrills through dangerous experiences, Maeson tied in each song to an emotional lesson he experienced in the early days of his musical career.
To tie in the nostalgic reminiscence of his earlier performances, Matt Maeson played a variety of songs off his first ep including “Tribulation,” and “Cringe”. Not lingering in past music too long, Maeson also played his latest single, “Rational,” along with more recent favorites like “Cut Deep”. Ending the night with a crowd-screaming class, “Beggar Song,” Matt Maeson kept the energy of each song through emotional expression. This performance offered so much for Matt Maeson fans, new and old alike.
