Ascribe is a creative collective focused on cultural commentary. The collective’s internal team publishes work digitally online and on social media, and physically through limited-run issues and zines.

PHASE ONE: FIRST STEPS

Founded in early 2019, Ascribe Magazine was started by Editor-In-Chief Caitlyn McGonigal alongside some friends out of a dorm room in Philadelphia. Ascribe was developed with the mission of giving young fans and aspiring music industry professionals a way to share what they were passionate about while developing real industry work experience. focused on the latest and greatest in pop/alt culture.

Ascribe’s early team was focused heavily on pop punk and DIY culture, both acting as the heartbeat that kept the alternative music scene alive.

PHASE TWO: THE EARLY 2020’S

Ascribe redefined itself in the early 2020’s, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and music industry’s landscape shift as a result. During this time, Ascribe broadened its horizons to look at pop and alternative culture as wider movements outside of just music. As the team expended to reflect this update, so did Ascribe’s publication process.

Ascribe Magazine published its first issue (AM01) on New Years Eve, 2022. Boston Manor graced the cover of this first endeavor into print media, which donated its profits to charity, furthering Ascribe’s dedication to non-paywalled journalism.

Ascribe would release two additional print issues in the following year, collaborating with labels like Hopeless Records, Equal Vision Records, and Thriller Records for unique issue-specific exclusives. 2023 would also mark a pivital year for the publication, upon collaborating with the teams behind large events like the Creator Clash and Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour to cover the events.

Many of Ascribe’s longest-standing team members would find roles working on tours and at major labels/PR firms in the industry, marking a full-circle of the publication’s mission.

PHASE THREE: PRESENT DAY

Forever evolving to stay ahead of the entertainment industry, Ascribe redefined itself in 2026 as a creative collective whose internal team publishes a body of work. You don’t need to be a publication contributor to join the Ascribe collective and benefit from the community, resources, and career opportunities the collective offers. Guest contributions and work submissions for publication are encouraged, and accepted on a rolling basis.

Ascribe is always looking to meet new creatives, whether they’re on-stage, working behind-the-scenes, or just beginning to figure out their footing. You can reach the team at [email protected] for all inquiries.

Please keep in mind that due to the number of inquiries Ascribe receives, the team is only able to respond to those they are able to give coverage to, or bring onto the publication team.
