I had the absolute honor of seeing Softcult’s first headlining US tour at an intimate Philadelphia venue. The energy of the room was quiet and in anticipation of the show to come. The opener, Soft Blue Shimmer, fueled this peaceful yet excited crowd with an entertaining performance. The crowd was warmed up and ready for the rest of the evening.

Softcult took the stage at just the right moment and lit up the room. The visuals created by the colored lights was just enough to compliment the staging without distracting from the artists. The lights aided to the show’s dreamy vibes that overtook the room in a calm beauty.

The music was edgy and yet refined making for an absolutely lovely set. Softcult’s musical performance pulled from riot grrrl culture with their passionate cries against systemic injustice on a rhythm of dream-filled angst. Each song matched the energy of the room and set a lovely tone for the evening’s act. Playing some of the recent singles released, songs like “Gaslight” got a beloved response from the crowd.

Tackling important and controversial topics and being informative to the masses while also putting on a delightfully entertaining show is an impressive skill that Softcult has seemed to master. Their Philadelphia show was wonderful to watch and an overall beautiful experience. If you have the ability to attend a show this spring you will not be disappointed!
